FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions | VanLifePro

General

It depends on vehicle size and insulation. Rule of thumb: up to 3 m³ volume a 2-kW heater (Autoterm Air 2D) is sufficient, up to 5 m³ we recommend the 4-kW version (Air 4D), larger vehicles or poorly insulated Sprinters need 8 kW (Air 9D).

Yes, with basic mechanical skills the installation is possible. You need about 4–6 hours, the right tools and our installation guide. Pay special attention to the fuel line, exhaust outlet and power supply. If in doubt, we recommend a professional installer.

The Autoterm Air models run on diesel. They can be fed directly from the vehicle tank (recommended) or from a separate fuel tank. Consumption is approx. 0.1–0.5 l/h depending on the power level.

Installation

The fuel line should be a maximum of 5–6 metres long. Longer lines can impair fuel supply. Only use the fuel line included in the delivery or a compatible one.

An ideal location is a protected area under the vehicle floor or in the rear section. The heater must be mounted horizontally (max. ±30° inclination), free from vibrations and with sufficient distance from flammable materials (min. 30 cm).

Troubleshooting

Check first: 1) Battery voltage (min. 10.5 V), 2) Fuel level and line, 3) Error codes on the display, 4) Air intake and exhaust duct for blockages. The most common causes are a dead battery or blocked fuel line.

The error codes are documented in the operating manual. Common codes: E-01 (overheating), E-03 (start error/fuel), E-07 (fan error). After fixing the cause, the error can be reset by switching off and on again.
